The communication of the meaning of a text in the source-language by using an equivalent target-language text is called translation. Interpretation is a type of translational activity in which the target language output is generated on the basis of a one-time exposure to the source language text. The cognitive scientific approach to translation investigates the development and workings of the underlying processes within the brain that help in completing the complex cognitive task of translation. Cognitive translation research makes use of various methods to examine how different groups of participants with a range of text types and in a variety of contexts carry out the task of translation. The methods used in cognitive translation research include introspection, neurological EEG measurements, theoretical analysis, interviews, think-aloud protocols, participant observation, screen logging, and eye-tracking. This book investigates cognitive approaches to translation and interpretion. With state-of-the-art inputs by acclaimed experts of this field, it targets students and professionals.
